Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI) and its Potential Clinical Implications for Cardiovascular Disease
نویسندگان
چکیده
Arterial stiffness is a surrogate indicator for the development of cardiovascular disease. The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is a recently developed clinical metric for evaluating arterial stiffness. Two characteristics of CAVI, which makes it amenable for widespread use, is its simplicity of measurement and the fact that it is relatively independent of blood pressure. Several recent clinical studies have shown the possible utility of CAVI for identifying patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease and for monitoring treatment effectiveness in lipid clinics.

Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index and Its Potential Clinical Implications for Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a prevalent disorder associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). While arterial stiffness is a surrogate marker for the development of CVD, the cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is a recently developed metric for evaluating arterial stiffness. Clinical studies have shown that the CAVI is higher in patients with the sleep apnea syndrome. In particular, a re...
متن کاملAssessment of Arterial Stiffness Using the Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index.
BACKGROUND Arterial stiffness is an independent predictor of outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. Although measurement of pulse wave velocity is a widely accepted, noninvasive approach for the assessment of arterial stiffness, its accuracy is affected by changes in blood pressure. SUMMARY The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is an index of the overall stiffness of the artery f...
متن کاملThe Role of Monitoring Arterial Stiffness with Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index in the Control of Lifestyle-Related Diseases.
Arteriosclerosis is a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases. One of the difficulties in controlling those diseases is the lack of a suitable indicator of arteriosclerosis or arterial injury in routine clinical practice. Arterial stiffness was supposed to be one of the monitoring indexes of arteriosclerosis. Cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is reflecting the stiffness of the arterial tr...
متن کاملCardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) as an indicator of arterial stiffness
Arterial stiffness has been identified as an independent predictor of prognostic outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. Although measurement of pulse wave velocity has been a widely accepted noninvasive approach to the assessment of arterial stiffness, its accuracy is hampered by changes in blood pressure. Taking the exponential relation between intravascular pressure and arterial d...
متن کاملEvaluation of Blood Pressure Control using a New Arterial Stiffness Parameter, Cardio-ankle Vascular Index (CAVI)
Arterial stiffness has been known to be a surrogate marker of arteriosclerosis, and also of vascular function. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) had been the most popular index and was known to be a predictor of cardiovascular events. But, it depends on blood pressure at measuring time. To overcome this problem, cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is developed. CAVI is derived from stiffness parameter β...
